Paul Nelson is recognized as one of today’s top guitarists/songwriters and producers not only having the distinction of being the hand picked fellow guitarist to the legendary rock/blues icon Johnny Winter but he has toured the world over performing and or recorded along side an endless who’s who list of top artists from Eric Clapton and Buddy Guy to Slash, Billy Gibbons, Ben Harper, Robben Ford, Vince Gill, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, James Cotton, Joe Perry, Susan Tedeschi, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, John Popper, Dr. John, Larry Carlton, Leslie West, Joe Bonamassa, Sonny Landreth, Dickey Betts to Joe Walsh and more…

Nelson received a Grammy award for his work performing on and producing Winter’s “Step Back” release on Megaforce/Sony winning “Best Blues Album of the Year” highlighting his already long list of Grammy Nominations. As well as the BMA “Blues Music Award” for “Best Blues/Rock Album” reaching #16 on the Billboard Top 200 and staying at #1 on the Billboard Blues Charts for weeks. He is also a recipient of the Blues Foundation’s KBA “Keeping The Blues Alive Award”.

His music has reached millions with appearances on Late Night with David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel Live, and on award winning documentaries: “Down and Dirty” The Johnny Winter Story and “Sideman: Long Road to Glory” (feat: Bonnie Rait, Gregg Allman, Hubert Sumlin), as well as music written/performed and broadcast nationally on NBC and on multiple major album releases, books, instructional guitar columns, live Concert DVD’s, and guest performances on countless recordings.

The Daytona Beach Blues Society is holding a fund-raiser event to help support the local chapter of the “Guitars for Vets” program at the Port Orange Veterans Administration.

This event features two excellent, “get on your feet” blues bands from central Florida; Sugar & Spice Revue, and Joe Caruso.  The evening will also include a silent auction, 50/50 and food provided by local businesses.  Proceeds will be used to purchase supplies for the “Guitars for Vets” program such as guitars, gig bags, cases, music stands, strings, capos and straps.  This therapeutic program has proven very successful to date, and our Society desires to “keep the music rolling”.   “Guitars for Vets” offers veterans a guitar, weekly lessons and a monthly group session that provides a positive, communal atmosphere to socialize and play music with peers who share similar interests.

Sugar and Spice Revue

Sugar and Spice Revue is an exciting musical experience and ultimate party band from Tampa, Florida. Sisters Myra “Sugar” Glover and Velma “Spice” Glover front the band with powerful, gospel-tinged, blues drenched vocals. Since their 2nd place win in the finals at the 2017 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN, Sugar and Spice have been Bluesin’, Rockin’, and Funkin’ it up on some of the hottest Festivals and Stages in the Tampa Bay/Orlando Area.

Joe Survival Caruso

A survivor from tours of duty in Vietnam to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Joe has been singing and playing the blues professionally since he was fifteen years old.  Growing up in a musical family in New Orleans, he has been exposed to the best – he opened for Etta James, Hank Ballard Ernie K-Doe & Aaron Neville, leading to a career of world-wide touring with a variety of music genres.  Influenced by Ray Charles, Freddie King, Guitar Slim, B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix and Bobby Bland to name a few, Joe Caruso created his own unique sound that he continues to share today.  The Big Easy native is backed by Wayne A. Pollack on bass guitar and vocals, Kenneth Dillard on drums and “Bootsy” Taylor on lead vocals.  Joe’s understated tones feature a swirl of influences, including his deep New Orleans roots, delta blues, boogie-woogie, jazz, rhythm & blues, and rock.  The throwback sound is very refreshing and there’s no sitting still when you hear this music.

Biscuit and his band, The Mix, have been touring extensively ever since he won his first BMA in 2012 followed by a second BMA for Best Bass Player in 2017.  Biscuit is known for his high energy shows and blazing million-dollar smile. He is a born entertainer and is at home on the stage where he connects with his audience through a fun and funky approach to the blues. But don’t let the fun and food songs fool you! This is a dedicated group of musicians with an amazing depth of talent.

Biscuit was introduced to the bass for the first time at the age of eleven when visiting his friend Datrick. It was sitting in a corner collecting dust when the young Biscuit picked it up and started playing it. The four string electric bass belonged to Datrick’s older brother Darnell, who taught him a couple of songs. Biscuit took to it immediately and thus began a love affair with playing bass that has taken him places he could never have imagined. He formed his first band, Clever, with childhood friend Ivan Wallace. They moved to Minneapolis in 1982. Soon after, a mutual friend, Joe Rowe introduced Biscuit to Sonny Rogers who taught him a lot about playing basic blues. During his time with Rogers, they recorded “They Call Me the Cat Daddy”, which won Rogers a Handy Award for Best New Artist. Sadly, Sonny passed away before he was able to accept the award.

Biscuit then went on to play with other respected blues artists such as, Mojo Buford, formerly with Muddy Waters, and Lady Blue, backup vocalist for Ike and Tina Turner. One day, Biscuit received a phone call requesting him to come back home to sub for Chicago’s own legendary Lonnie Brooks who needed a bass player for one night. That one night lasted for over ten years as Biscuit then came the permanent bass player for the Lonnie Brooks Band.

In 2000 he formed Biscuit and The Mix to fill up some down-time. During this time, he also completed his first studio recording “Come Together”. Biscuit frequently could be found sitting in with the up and coming blues guitarist Anthony Gomes. During one of these sessions, he was asked to join the band full time and he spent the next five years touring with Anthony. During his time with Anthony Gomes, they released five CD’s; Unity, Sweet Stringin’ Soul, Long Way Home, Music is the Medicine, and Live at the Triple Door.

Biscuit Miller has graced the covers of several publications, including the Blues Festival Guide and Big City Rhythm & Blues. In 2012 he was awarded his first Blues Music Award following the release of his second studio recording, “Blues With A Smile”. Having received wide air play on Sirius XM Radio, “Blues With A Smile” is aptly named, as Biscuit is known around the world for his huge, heartfelt smile as well as his antics as a funky bassist turned front man.

The world famous Nighthawks return to The Bank & Blues on November 9th!  Founded in 1974 in Washington, D.C., the Nighthawks soldier on today with original singer/harmonica player Mark Wenner at the helm. The band’s roots music continues to be a free-wheeling mix of blues, R&B, honky-tonk country, doo-wop, gospel and rockabilly.

The Nighthawks’ latest album, “All You Gotta Do,” was released in July and also features drummer Mark Stutso sharing vocal duties. The album includes the Nighthawks’ take on the Brenda Lee pop rockabilly title track, Levon Helm’s “When I Go Away” and Randy Newman’s “Burn Down the Cornfield,” plus the original track “Voo Doo Doll.”

Joey Gilmore returns to The Bank & Blues on August 3rd!

After teaching himself to play guitar at an early age, Gilmore began performing in public with a small band of like-minded youths. At first, he played and sang in church, his repertoire largely religious music, but gradually incorporated secular music and thus widened his audience although he and his band’s club dates were usually in establishments they were too young to legally enter.

In the 60s, Gilmore moved to the southern end of his home state where he became a popular figure on the local blues scene and was often called upon to accompany visiting musicians. He recorded from the mid-70s, releasing some EPs and there was also a late 80s album but it was not until the early 90s that his recordings began to appear regularly. Gilmore has appeared at numerous blues and/or jazz festivals, including Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Mississippi Valley, Montreux, Riverwalk, Taiwan, and at the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, where he appeared in 2006 to great acclaim, winning the Best Band division.

Veteran local drummer Scott Corwin was a beloved and respected drummer/singer. As a session drummer for King Snake Records, Scott played on over 20 albums. Scott became a founding member of The Midnight Creepers featuring Saxophone legend Noble “Thin Man” Watts.

On Sunday, July 28 at The Bank & Blues Club, Scott’s former bandmates and friends will come together for a concert in his honor, including:

With over 20 years of experience, Landon Lane is a remarkable boogie woogie piano player. He has been influenced by musicians such as, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino and Ray Charles. Landon is a 2011 Rockabilly Hall of Fame inductee. He has played nationally and internationally in places such as Copenhagen Denmark, Chicago, Pennsylvania, and his hometown of Memphis TN along with many more. He has also opened for Jerry Lee Lewis on a New Year’s Eve show. Landon’s show is a very electric and entertaining show that can be appreciated by all.

Igor and The Red Elvises return to The Bank on November 2nd!

The Red Elvises began in 1995 after founder Igor Yuzov dreamed that Elvis Presley came to him and told him to start playing rock’n’roll. Not one to say no to the King, Igor and his Russian friends started playing on Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade. Their street musician days did not last long, however, as they drew such huge crowds that the City of Santa Monica brought them to court and ordered them off the streets. Since then Red Elvises have been constantly touring, with occasional breaks from the road to record an album or take part in film and television projects. This constant work for the last 15 years has led to them gaining a world-wide following, with successful tours all over North America, Europe and Russia.

Igor & Red Elvises have declined several major record deals, prefering to maintain independent status and produce all their own work. This includes 11 studio albums, one live album, a live concert DVD and a Greatest Hits compilation. Added to their long resume is work in film and television. They can be found playing everything from large festivals to private parties, small venues to massive stages such as 2005’s Live 8 Benefit Concert. Whatever the event, wherever Igor & Red Elvises go, they bring the party with them.
